Recurring Tasks
Effectively managing and automating Recurring Tasks is vital for optimizing productivity and ensuring compliance. Discover the benefits of mastering this powerful tool.
Last Updated: 14 Oct 2025
Libryo gives you the ability to set recurring tasks, which are essential for managing ongoing responsibilities such as license renewals, permits, and other compliance requirements with specific expiration dates that need to be renewed periodically. By automating these tasks, you can ensure timely action, proactive compliance management, and consistent oversight of critical deadlines - all while saving setup time.
Recurring tasks can now be created during task creation or added to an existing single task afterward. This gives you more flexibility to manage deadlines as your compliance needs evolve.
In addition, you can configure task reminders so that assignees and stakeholders receive notifications ahead of due dates or when a task becomes overdue. This ensures nothing slips through the cracks and the right people are always alerted at the right time.
To get started with setting up a recurring task, follow the step-by-step guide below.
Creating a Recurring Task
You can set a recurrence in two ways:
I) During task creation, when setting up a new task from any module.
II) After the task has already been created, by adding a recurrence to an existing single task (as long as it’s not already recurring).
I) Adding a Recurrence While Creating a Task
1. Select the specific type of Recurring Task you wish to create, which corresponds to the module in which you create the task:
- Legislation Task (to be created within the Requirements or Actions module)
- Update Task (to be created within the Update module)
- File Task (to be created within the Drives module)
- Generic Task (to be created within the Task Manager module)
2. On the menu on your left, go to the module you need to create the Recurring Task.
3. Click on "Create Task"
When you select Recurring Task, the following options will appear. Follow these steps:
-

-
Enter a clear and descriptive name for your recurring task.

In “Task is due every”, enter how often the task should repeat (e.g., every 7 days, every 1 month).
-

-
4. Click on "Save" and if you want to edit the information of the task click on "Save & Edit".
II) Adding a Recurrence to an Existing Task
If you’ve already created a single task but would like to make it recurring, you can easily set a recurrence afterward directly from the Task Detail page.
-
Open the task you want to make recurring.
-
Scroll down to the Task Repeats section.
-
Under “Task is due every”, set how often the task should repeat (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly).
-
Under “Series Ends”, choose one of the following:
-
On a specific date → select the end date of the recurrence.
-
After a set number of recurrences → specify how many times the task should repeat.
-
-
Click Save.
The recurrence will now be applied to this task, and all future occurrences will be automatically generated based on the settings you selected.
⚠️ Safeguard: The system prevents creating a recurrence on top of an existing recurrence.
Note: You can only add a recurrence if the task is not already set as recurring.
Viewing Recurring Tasks in Task Detail
After you create a Recurring Task and choose "Save & Edit," you will be directed to the Task Detail page. This page provides a comprehensive overview of the parent recurring task, allowing you to review and modify the task’s information as needed.
On this page, a new tab called Related Tasks will appear. This tab shows all of the individual tasks that have been generated from the recurrence.
1. Go to Related Tasks
-
In this page, click the Related Tasks tab.
2. See all generated tasks
-
Each recurrence is created as a separate task, not grouped into one.
-
The Related Tasks tab lists all of these tasks, with their own due dates.
3. Manage each task independently
-
You can open, update, and complete each task on its own, while still keeping them linked to the original recurrence.
The recurring task will carry over the same details, such as “Assigned To,” so that an email notification is automatically sent when each new task is created.
As the due date approaches, and if the task becomes overdue, the Libryo Platform will generate alerts and notifications for the relevant user(s). These alerts are delivered both by email and as in-app notifications.
Note: Overdue email notifications are sent at 8:00 a.m. in the user’s local timezone.
4. You can check your alerts on the left-hand side of your platform's initial page, the Dashboard.
5. If you need to make changes to the recurrence pattern or if you want to stop a recurring task, you can do so by editing the task and adjusting the recurrence settings.
This guide allows you to create recurring tasks in any module of the platform, making it adaptable for various types of tasks and legal requirements.
Editing or Deleting Recurrences
You can edit or delete recurrences with flexibility:
-
To edit an existing recurrence, open the Task Detail, go to Task Repeats, adjust the frequency, duration, or end date, and Save the changes.
- Here, you can:
-
Change Task Duration – adjust the start dates relative to the due date across all recurring instances.
-
Modify Recurrence Cadence – change how often a task repeats (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly) even after the recurrence has been set.
-
Adjust the end date or other recurrence settings as needed.
-
-
To delete recurrences, go to the Related Tasks tab. From there, you can either delete individual task instances or use the bulk selection option to remove multiple occurrences at once with a single click.
This gives you full control over how recurring tasks are scheduled and managed.
